Meals on Wheels Pet Program
Helping Older Adults Care for the Pets They Love
Every Delivery Means More
“She never leaves my side”, says Agnes, 1010, about her little dog, Sadie.
After losing her son five years ago, Sadie became much more than a pet. She became companionship, comfort, and a reason to get up each morning.
But when money is tight, no one should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding the pet who brings so much joy and purpose to their life.
That's why Senior Citizens Inc. created the Meals on Wheels Pet Program. By providing pet food to eligible Meals on Wheels clients, we're helping older adults continue caring for the companions who help them age successfully.
Why It Matters
Research shows pets provide much more than affection.
Companionship - Pets help reduce loneliness and provide emotional support, especially for older adults who live alone.
Purpose - Caring for a pet creates daily routines and reminds people they are still needed.
Health - Research has linked pets to increased physical activity, reduced stress, and improved emotional well-being.
Independence - Helping older adults care for their pets helps them remain safely and happily in their own homes.
How the Program Works
It’s simple.
Eligible Meals on Wheels clients who need assistance caring for their pet(s) may receive food once a month during a special meals on Wheels delivery via our wonderful volunteers.
Donations from our community help ensure the program is available whenever it’s needed.
Every delivery helps protect a relationship that contributes to comforts, purpose, and connection.
