What is Respite Care?
Respite care offers short-term, temporary relief for primary caregivers. It allows families to take a break while ensuring their loved one is safe, engaged and well cared for. Respite care can last a few hours, a day or longer term, depending on the needs of the family.
At DayBreak, our respite program is designed to provide an engaging, supportive daytime environment for older adults who need supervised care, giving their caregivers peace of mind and a much needed breather.
Why is Respite Care important?
Caregiving is deeply rewarding - but it can also be emotionally and physically draining. Without regular breaks, caregivers are at risk for burnout, stress-related illnesses , and fatigue. Respite care help protect both the heat of the caregiver and the well-being of the person receiving care.
Some of the many benefits include:
Reduced stress and burnout for caregivers
Improved quality of care for the loved one
Social interactions and enrichment for the care recipient
Time for caregivers to attend appointments, run errands, or simply rest
Who is a Good Fit for Respite Care?
Respite care is ideal for older adult who:
Have mild to moderate cognitive challenges, such as early-stage dementia
Are physically frail and require supervision during the day
Would benefit from a structured setting with activities and social interaction
At DayBreak, we specialize in support older adults who may no longer thrive in traditional senior/neighborhood centers but do not yet need full-time in-home care. At DayBreak, we provide evidence-based programming that nurtures the mind, body, and spirit - helping participants stay active, engaged and connected.
