Savannah State University professor Christina Davis shares her research into Ellen Jackson, a Black teacher from Massachusetts, who taught in the Reconstruction-era South. Her work with freed people revealed her fervor for education and civil rights, while struggles with Black males exposed traditional gender roles and negative interpretations of Black culture.
