Dating back almost a century, Route 66 is not simply one of the earliest highways in the U.S. Numbered Highway System. Route 66 has entered the culture as a song and a television show. It has been revived for tourists in several states. Most importantly, it was a pathway to perceived prosperity for “Okies” during the Dust Bowl. Researcher Steve Acuff offers a vicarious journey through the history of Route 66.
