Fifty years before MLK’s “I Have a Dream” speech, Charles Chesnutt articulated his own vision: a “United States with but one people, moulded by the same culture and swayed by the same patriotic ideals.”  GSU professor Joyce White recounts how Chesnutt spent the Reconstruction and the early 1900s as an attorney and writer, laying groundwork for the Civil Rights movement he would not live to see.
