Co-authors Frye Gaillard and Cynthia Tucker argue that southern political trends, once national outliers, are now becoming emblematic of the nation as a whole. Their new book, The Southernization of America, is widely viewed as the sequel to John Egerton’s The Americanization of Dixie.
