This course explores various traditions and evolutions in the history of western Christian hymnody, from the plainchant hymns of the early Church through the many diverse hymn traditions alive today. Each class meeting includes plenty of participatory singing for the collective experience of the hymnody that Christians throughout time have nourished and preserved.

George Fergus is the Director of Music at Christ Church Episcopal in downtown Savannah. He holds degrees from St. Olaf College and Yale University, where he spent far too much of his time playing and singing hymns.
